Justine Howl

Strategic advice and direction

I major in marketing and communications, developing clear, tailored strategies that keep people at the heart of change. With over 20 years of experience, I thrive in building trust and delivering effective communication in complex environments. My focus is on helping clients understand change, ensuring projects are successful and well-supported.

Justine says

"I naturally strive to see things from other perspectives, which is a key attribute when delivering change communications.”

My role

My role is incredibly varied. I lead marketing communications for Entec Si, supporting clients by developing and delivering stakeholder engagement and communication strategies. These involve clear, tailored plans to help internal and external customers understand how changes will impact them. I also enjoy working with companies across a diverse range of sectors, adding value to their change projects and keeping people at the heart of all communication.

Skills and experience

With over 20 years’ experience working across a multitude of different fields, I’ve always been drawn to roles focused on communications and stakeholder engagement.

My strengths lie in strategic thinking, which has enabled me to work effectively in complex and dynamic environments. Additionally, I have strong writing and interpersonal skills, which enable me to build trust, support change and deliver effective communication strategies.

Career highlights

I’ve been fortunate to have loved every job I’ve ever had, so I have a wealth of rewarding career highlights. One that stands out is my involvement in the event management of the 1998 G8 conference in Birmingham. Seeing so many world leaders arrive in the city and supporting the event’s security and logistics was an incredible – if slightly daunting – experience.

What characteristics do you think make you good at your role?

I naturally strive to see things from other’s perspectives, which is a key attribute when delivering change communications. Similarly, I aim to be supportive and caring in both professional and personal settings. This approach helps me to integrate well into project teams, where I often act as a reliable and supportive presence.

What I love
about my job

From delivering client projects to organising employee events, I love the variety of work. A big part of this is the autonomy I’m given and the trust that’s put in me. What’s really special is the supportive and fun team of people I work with. They’re a great bunch, and I like that we all share the same values.

How do you relax away from work?

I swim and practice yoga regularly and I love going for walks with my dog. I also really enjoy photography and attending festivals. Getting away in my camper van is the perfect way for me to truly switch off.

What words of wisdom would you give your younger self?

I can sometimes be a little hard on myself, so I’d say spend less time sweating about the small stuff, focus on the things you can control and be kind to yourself. I’m proud to say I wouldn’t change a thing in my career, so it’d have to also be: trust your gut, it will serve you well.

Pet hate

Dishonesty and rudeness.

If you had to take one book, one film and one album on a desert island, what would they be?

  • A book on how to build a boat might be sensible, but probably a blank journal so I could record my daily island adventures
  • Film: Pulp Fiction (what a soundtrack)
  • Album: That’s hard as I have a real eclectic taste in music but probably ABBA’s greatest hits

One thing no one would know about you

I lived in Germany for two years.

Last supper choice

I rarely eat meat, so it’d probably be a salmon Thai red curry. I spent some time travelling around Asia and picked up an addiction to Thai food. Followed by an espresso martini (or two…).
